Pop-up Beginnings - (March 5 - April 11)

group show

Please join us at our Gallery Opening: Friday, March 5th, 6-9 PM at 929 Broadway (between 21st and 22nd street), New York, NY, 10010.

NNEW YORK—Milavec Green Gallery is pleased to present Pop-Up Beginnings, a debut exhibition of paintings, photography and sculpture. Located in a newly-restored historical landmark building in Manhattan’s Flatiron district, long-time occupied by Gordon Novelty, Pop-Up Beginnings presents a multiplicity of perspectives from an exciting group of emerging and established artists. The eclectic visual dialogue characterizing the show stems in part from the varied geographic origins of the ten artists (including New York, London, Korea, Los Angeles and Russia), and can be seen in both their identification with their respective media and to broader art historical and social contexts.

Alex Yudzon's portrayal of contemporary motifs are richly filled with patterns and symbols influential to his upbringing. Lisa Lebofsky depicts clouds, figures and waterfronts on metal canvases, resulting in a brilliant radiance. Allan D. Hasty exposes the darker side of intimate logos that double as decoration in the underground drug world. He, along with Parker Wolf, tie down faceless images and objects that find themselves in an endless struggle in their current environment. Jeremy Olson's surrealist scenes cause you to question if things are as beautiful out of context, while Yasamin Keshtkar similarly plays with the idea of painting as luxury object and platform for cultural iconography. Thaddeus Radell's paintings emphasize process, enriching and reinforcing the emotive capacity of his images. Yun-Woo Choi's sculptural works strike a balance between their ethereal materials and overall structure; culminating in a penetrating presence. Yeleen Lee photographs and obscures the reflections of the New York skyline in the rippling asphalt puddles most of us avoid. Laura Harris has a fresh perspective on the universality of celebrity narcissism. With her playful titles, Alicia Gibson's autobiographical-themed narratives are both playful and revealing.

Pop-Up Beginnings will be on view at Milavec Green Gallery, 929 Broadway (between 21st and 22nd street) through March 30, 2010. Hours: 7 Days a Week, 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. For further information, contact Nikki Milavec at (817) 975-5488, or email nikki@milavecgreen.com.

Masters of Merriment - (April 30 - May 14)

Group Show

NEW YORK—Milavec Green Gallery is pleased to present Masters of Merriment, a group show exposing New York’s up and coming artistic talent in the heart of Manhattan’s Flatiron District. Located at 929 Broadway, between 21st and 22nd street, our landmark building features vintage elements such as tin-patterned walls and carved archways, brought right up to date as space to enjoy the raw, edgy creativity of our Artists. We will be open 1pm-7pm, 7 days a week.

This will be Milavec Green’s second exhibition in this venue, thus a few returning gems will be displayed along with some completely new works. The lovely realistic and romantic popular oil paintings on aluminum by Lisa Lebofsky, as well as the patterned, stylized genius of Alex Yudzon’s paintings and the obscure dimensional magazine, resin drenched sculptures of Yun-Woo Choi will make a second appearance. We are ecstatic to present the gallery debuts of Katelyn Alain’s figurative self-portraits in abstracted environments, I-Ling Eleen Lin’s visual confluence of her Chinese heritage and Western stereotypes and Conor McCreddy’s portrayal of larger than life figures. Merriment meets its match with the playful, animated worlds created by ArtStar’s Gigi Chen and Glenn Palmer-Smith’s intricate and whimsical interiors.

We are delighted to invite you to the opening reception of Masters of Merriment, on April 30, 2010, from 6-9 PM, which will be accompanied by free drinks, and the sweet tunes of Darja Schabad and Ted Panov. Masters of Merriment will be on view through May 30, 2010.
